Sanjay was blessed with two ‘National Scholarships’ when he was only 14 – one was for basically Mathametics and Science and the other was for the most intricate genre of Indian Vocal Music ‘Thumri.’

It went off the memory lane as to when little Sanjay had his early music lessons from his father Late Ajit Kumar Chakrabarty. Today’s ACHARYA SANJAY was used to stand first in hundreds of competitions related to different braches of Indian vocal music (folk-modern to classical) at sub-divisional, district and state levels in India.

From his early teens ACHARYA SANJAY started off supporting his elder brother Ajay Chakrabarty’s vocal concerts on the Harmonium. Later on for a spell of long ten years, he lent Harmonium support to a galaxy of vocal legends like Bhimsen Joshi, Mallikarjun Mansoor, Kishori Amonkar, Girija Devi and so many others of the time in thousands of concerts both in India and abroad. While accompanying them Sanjay lost no time to pick the gems from their Raga renditions of different schools or gharanas. This golden opportunity brought him a great privilege in the making of his own individual style of Khyal and Thumri singing in his later life, as Sanjay admits in gratitude.

With the virtues of his natural flair in writing lyrics and making tune compositions, a good volume of attractive songs came out of the hands of ACHARYA SANJAY in his early youth. While turning alive all those compositions through studio recordings, Sanjay had enjoyed a wonderful association with the world famous vocalists like Asha Bhonslay, Manna Dey, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Hariharan as well as his elder brother Ajoy Chakrabarty and the immortal composers like Salil Chowdhury and Rahuldeb Burman. And again on having these artistes rehearsed with his compositions, Sanjay reminisces that he too learnt a lot of nittygritties of the modern playback singing styles from them.

After a long time of research (Nearly 30 Years) regarding Praan Sangeet (Bio-Music) Sanjay is again available in the most prestigious concerts of North Indian Classical and Semi-Classical Music in India and aboard with the fragrance of Bio-Music within the contents of his performance demonstration.

The style of performance of today’s ACHARYA SANJAY in terms of Khayal and Thumri in particular relates two Gharanas (schools), as he learned and practiced different intricacies of Senia (originated from Taansen) Gharana and Kosur-Patiala Gharana (School) as well.

The secret of this brilliant range of artistry consists in all his works covering classicism to the delicacies of modern numbers and even fusions, ACHARYA SANJAY owes it all again to the blessing hands of his both the spiritual guides – the hallowed Swami Premananda and Swami Sadananda.

Sanjay Chakrabarty's vocal timbre is magnificent. In some account his rendition is very near to the style of legendary Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib.
